I'm sure we all know the story of Job, and how he refused to sin against God in his hard times. Since DBS this week was about dealing with hard times, let's draw some inspiration from Job, shall we? =)

So we probably already know that Job had all his possessions taken away from him in an instant. That's all his livestock and his children gone in an instant. Yet when Job heard about all that had happened, he did something that I doubt many of us could do.

"At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing."
Job 1 : 20-22

After that, Job was again afflicted with painful sores on his body, and even his wife told him to blame God for all his sufferings. Job's reply?

"He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said."

Again, Job refused to curse God, or even begrudge God for all that had happened.

There's a lesson to be learnt from all this. It is inevitable that we meet with hard times in this fallen world. We may not always be able to choose what kind of hard times we meet with, but we always get to choose our response. Will we choose to say

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
Philippians 4 : 12-13

Or do we choose to curse God and blame Him for all that's going wrong?

blessed


hi people!!! HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!

is it just me or does anyone else feel that national day is rather contrived at times, and that its the only time of the year whereby we say that we love singapore alot and that Singapore is really awesome; regardless of whether or not we really mean it. i guess i'm pretty guilty of feeling like that sometimes.

well if we put a little more thought into singapore our home, we're actually very very very very blessed by God; more that we can ever imagine. compared with other countries around the world, we're actually very lucky and blessed to be able to live in a country that we feel safe and protected in- we do not have to fight for our lives. compared to children in other parts of the world, we have the chance to be educated, parents who care for us, food to eat and much more (like PSPs, Wiiiiiis and what not). Other children are out there fighting for their lives, battling with starvation, working as child labourers under extreme conditions, fighting as child soldiers. compared to them, our lives are indeed very comfortable and great. too great, in my opinion, that we tend to take things for granted and forget that we're indeed very blessed.

i really hope that we will always remember to thank God for everything in every season, and to always keep in mind that God has really blessed us. (and not complain or grumble so much).

in the meantime, enjoy your holiday tomorrow :)

Prinsep Lighthouse (PLH) is the youth ministry of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. It’s meant for all youths aged 13-18 years old to come together every Sunday for a fellowship as well as to worship God and learn more about Him.PLH is on every Sunday from 11am to 12.45pm. On usual Sundays, we have worship time from 11-11.30am. During worship, we sing songs of praise to God.

After which the youths will break up into their respective groups to do a Bible Study for the rest of the time there. These Bible Studies are led by Mentors, who are really nice and fun people and are very knowledgeable and helpful as well. While doing Bible Studies, we share about our life too! Our joy, our pride, our problems, our challenges..and through this, we make loads of great friends!!
