Who Are You?

Galatians 3:26
“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Have you ever experienced an identity crisis--a time when you asked yourself who you really were, and why you were here? There are three specific times when this crisis is most common.

Teens often go through a period of wondering who they are--trying to fit into their circle of friends, while trying to learn the meaning of life. During middle age some people struggle with identity, perhaps out of disappointment for not having achieved all they had hoped. In later years people realize that life is approaching its final stages, and they wonder what kind of person they have become.

Because Christians are not immune to such questions, it's good to review who God says we are. This can be encouraging as we remember what Christ did when He redeemed us. The Bible tells us that because of our relationship to Christ, we are forgiven (Acts 10:43), reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:18-19), new creations in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), joint heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:16-17), God's adopted children (Gal. 4:4-7), and God's witnesses and ambassadors (Mt. 28:19-20; 2 Cor.
5:20). Best of all, we are destined to be like His Son (Rom. 8:29).

Such wonderful truths should leave no doubt about who we really are and why we are here! —

hey people! came across this interesting article some time ago. During the past week i was facing a problem rather similar to this. I was struggling and asked God to help me.

Then, i was randomly browsing through my emails, having totally forgotten about this article my friend sent me. The title struck me, even though it simply said "article worth reading".

Well after reading the email and looking up all the Bible verses and praying about it, I felt much better, knowing that God put me here for a reason (:

God's plan is indeed the best plan, and He knows all the struggles we may be going through, even if it seems like praying isn't helping, God is listening to your prayers, and He answers them in His perfect way and time.

Hello all. I know this has been abit dead for a while, sorry...

Life is like a hundred meter dash. God is the judge, heaven is the trophy. Satan is the big sized runner who sticks his foot out every few steps to try and trip you. Jesus is the person who runs beside you, picks you up when you stumble and finishes the race for you. It doesnt matter what race you are, or when you finish. As long as you have Him helping you, you can get past Satan and complete the race, and receive your trophy.

But remember: Cheaters don't win. Run the race well, and finish it well.

Mentor Shih Kiat's mother had passed on to glory last night. Please be in prayer for the family. The Lord is indeed good to her (Shih Kiat's mum) as He brought her to Himself about 3-4 years ago before calling her home now.

"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.." John 11:25

Jesus is our Hope and our Resurrection, let us encourage each other with these words. Those who wish to visit the family, please ask any of the youth committee members for the details.





This beautiful story was written by a doctor who worked in Africa.

One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do, she died, leaving us with a tiny, premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter.

We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive, as we had no incubator (we had no electricity to run an incubator). We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts.

One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton & wool that the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst (rubber perishes easily in tropical climates ). "And it is our last hot water bottle!" she exclaimed.

As in the West, it is no good crying over spilled milk, so in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over burst water bottles. They do not grow on trees, and there are no drugstores down forest pathways.

"All right," I said, "put the baby as near the fire as you safely can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm."

The following noon , as I did most days, I went to have prayers with any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby.

I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle, and that the baby could so easily die if it got chills. I also told them of the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died.

During prayer time, a ten-year-old girl, Ruth, prayed with the usual blunt conciseness of our African children.

"Please, God" she prayed, "Send us a hot water bottle today. It'll be no good tomorrow, God, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon."

While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added, "And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she'll know You really love her?"

As often with children's prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say "Amen"? I just did not believe that God could do this.

Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything; the Bible says so. But there are limits, aren't there? The only way God could answer this particular prayer would be by sending me a parcel from the homeland.

I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever, received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone did send me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator!

Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses' training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door.

By the time I reached home, the car had gone, but there on the verandah was a large 22-pound parcel. I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone, so I sent for the orphanage children.

Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly. Excitement was mounting. Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box.

From the top, I lifted out brightly-colored, knitted jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out.

Then there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children looked a little bored.

Then came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas - that would make a batch of buns for the weekend.

Then, as I put my hand in again, I felt the... could it really be? I grasped it and pulled it out. Yes, a brand new, rubber hot water bottle.

I cried. I had not asked God to send it; I had not truly believed that He could.

Ruth was in the front row of the children. She rushed forward, crying out, "If God has sent the bottle, He must have sent the dolly, too!"

Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the small, beautifully-dressed dolly. Her eyes shone! She had never doubted! Looking up at me, she asked: "Can I go over with you and give this dolly to that little girl, so she'll know that Jesus really loves her?"

Of course, I replied! That parcel had been on the way for five whole months, packed up by my former Sunday school class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God's prompting to send a hot water bottle, even to the equator.

And one of the girls had put in a dolly for an African child -five months before, in answer to the believing prayer of a ten-year-old to bring it "that afternoon."

"Before they call, I will answer." (Isaiah 65:24)

Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards. Let's continue praying for one another.

"Heavenly Father, I ask You to bless my friends reading this. I ask You to minister to their spirit.
Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy.
Where there is self-doubting, release a renewed confidence to work through them.
Where there is tiredness or exhaustion, I ask You to give them understanding, guidance, and strength.
Where there is fear, reveal Your love and release to them Your courage.
Bless their finances, give them greater vision, and raise up leaders and friends to support and encourage them.
Give each of them discernment to recognize the evil forces around them and reveal to them the power they have in You to defeat it.
I ask You to do these things in Jesus' name.
Amen"

This is a very meaningful story that i just received in an email. We sometimes doubt that God will answer our prayers, especially those that seem highly unlikely. Just remember that prayer never fails, even if the answer God gives is "no", because everything falls in place in His perfect time.
AMEN!

Let's continue to keep the sec4s and J2s in our prayers, and even as the holidays are here, let's never forget to always put God first in our lives and continue to do our regular quiet time (:

Verse for the Week

John 10:10b - "....I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full"

Or in another version - "..that they might have it (life) abundantly"

God's plan for us is to live life to the fullest, to live the abundant life. Now, the abundant life is NOT the "health and wealth" gospel - that we'll be rich and everything will go smoothly etc.. - I believe Jesus' teaching on this is very clear. In fact, in many parts of Scriptures we are warned that we should be prepared to suffer for Christ's sake (Rom 8:17,18), to be misunderstood and even persecuted (John 15:20).

In summary of last Sunday's TeenTalk, living the abundant life is a life lived :

(a) in faith (Gal 2:20)
(b) for a higher calling (Eph 4:1)
(c) with hope (Col 3:4)
(d) in holiness (1Thess 4:7)
(e) in service of others (1Tim 6:18,19)

My prayer for all PLHers, is that you'll be confident in life because of who you are in Christ, that you'll be enthusiastic and positive about life because God's plan and will for your lives is the best - it's perfect, that you'll find meaning and purpose in life as you live it in a manner worthy of your calling, in worship of our heavenly Father and in service to others.

Enjoy life, live it to the fullest, and take 'boring' 'nothing to do' out of your vocab!! God wants you to live the abundant life!!

Prinsep Lighthouse (PLH) is the youth ministry of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. It’s meant for all youths aged 13-18 years old to come together every Sunday for a fellowship as well as to worship God and learn more about Him.PLH is on every Sunday from 11am to 12.45pm. On usual Sundays, we have worship time from 11-11.30am. During worship, we sing songs of praise to God.

After which the youths will break up into their respective groups to do a Bible Study for the rest of the time there. These Bible Studies are led by Mentors, who are really nice and fun people and are very knowledgeable and helpful as well. While doing Bible Studies, we share about our life too! Our joy, our pride, our problems, our challenges..and through this, we make loads of great friends!!
