John 3:16

Hey guys,
I found this story on the web, thought it might be interesting and relevant to some of you.

It goes like this...

In the city of Chicago, one cold, dark night, a blizzard was setting in. A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner, the people were in and out of the cold. The little boy was so cold that he wasn't trying to sell many papers.

He walked up to a policeman and said, "Mister, you wouldn't happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep tonight would you? You see, I sleep in a box up around the corner there and down the alley and it's awful cold in there for tonight. Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay."

The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, "You go down the street to that big white house and you knock on the door. When they come out the door you just say John 3:16, and they will let you in." So he did. He walked up the steps and knocked on the door, and a lady answered.

He looked up and said, "John 3:16 ." The lady said, "Come on in, Son." She took him in and she sat him down in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went off. The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself: John 3:16 ....I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm.

Later she came back and asked him "Are you hungry?" He said, "Well, just a little. I haven't eaten in a couple of days, and I guess I could stand a little bit of food." The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn't eat any more. Then he thought to himself: John 3:16... Boy, I sure don't understand it but it sure makes a hungry boy full.

She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub filled with warm water, and he sat there and soaked for a while. As he soaked, he thought to himself: John 3:16... I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy clean. You know, I've not had a bath, a real bath, in my whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out.

The lady came in and got him. She took him to a room, tucked him into a big old feather bed, pulled the covers up around his neck, kissed him goodnight and turned out the lights. As he lay in the darkness and looked out the window at the snow coming down on that cold night, he thought to himself: John 3:16... I don't understand it but it sure makes a tired boy rested.

The next morning the lady came back up and took him down again to that same big table full of food. After he ate, she took him back to that same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fireplace and picked up a big old Bible. She sat down in front of him and looked into his young face.

"Do you understand John 3:16 ?" she asked gently. He replied, "No, Ma'am, I don't. The first time I ever heard it was last night when the policeman told me to use it." She opened the Bible to John 3:16 and began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there, in front of that big old fireplace, he gave his heart and life to Jesus. He sat there and thought: John 3:16. .. .. I don't understand it, but it sure makes a lost boy feel safe.

You know, I have to confess I don't understand it either, how God was willing to send His Son to die for me, and how Jesus would agree to do such a thing. I don't understand the agony of the Father and every angel in heaven as they watched Jesus suffer and die.

I don't understand the intense love for ME that kept Jesus on the cross till the end. I don't understand it, but it sure does make life worth living.

The bible verse is...

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

SATAN'S MEETING: (Read even if you're busy) Satan called a worldwide convention of demons. In his opening address he said, 'We can't keep Christians from going to church.' 'We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth.' 'We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their saviour.' 'Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken.' 'So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, BUT steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ..' 'This is what I want you to do,' said the devil: 'Distract them from gaining hold of their Saviour and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!' 'How shall we do this?' his demons shouted. 'Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds,' he answered. 'Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow.' 'Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles.' 'Keep them from spending time with their children.' 'As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!' 'Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.' 'Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive.' To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly.' 'This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ.' 'Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers.' 'Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day.' 'Invade their driving moments with billboards.' 'Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes..' 'Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives. ' 'Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night.' 'Give them headaches too! ' 'If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look elsewhere.' 'That will fragment their families quickly!' 'Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas.' 'Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death.' 'Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.' 'Have them return from their recreation exhausted.' 'Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead.' 'Keep them busy, busy, busy!' 'And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences. ' 'Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus.' 'Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause.' 'It will work!' 'It will work!' It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there. Having little time for their God or their families. Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives. I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes? You be the judge!!!!! Does 'BUSY' mean: B-eing U-nder S-atan's Y-oke?

got GOD?

this is no email. we need stuff more personal than that.

if you hear God today, do not harden your heart.

feel emo? feel let down? betrayed? lost someone or some people who were important to you? or maybe the world ain't giving you a break. maybe someone stole your thunder. not getting the credit you feel you deserve? this job you are doing doesnt seem to be reaping any results no matter how hard or what you try. you know something is wrong with the whole thing but you can't do anything about it. abandoned by people you cared most about? or maybe that.... rahhh!!! just came in and ruined everything.
yeah well, if you feel that way, welcome to my life.
everyday there's something that's gonna bring you down.
and when there's an UP, it's short-lived.

ok take a moment now, and just think about it. everything or everyone you feel that really drives you nuts and makes you angry or sad. let the anger fill you. that's what i like to do. sometimes i punch the wall too. feel all the depression inside. it's ok if you feel like you wanna cry now. sometimes you just gotta let it out.

i don't pretend to be perfect, cos i definitely am not.
i pretend to be ok. but sometimes i ain't.

well, i don't really know what to say or how to continue, cos i'm writing all this on the spot.
i don't mean to lecture, and i don't mean to preach. i don't think i have enough biblical knowledge or all that theological prowess to get everything right in this post.
i'm just trying to write all this from a personal level to all PLHers who actually bother to visit this blog. cos someone around our age has gotta care enough to say something, right?

basically, i've been feeling a lot of crap. and i guess some or most of you are feeling that way too. but you know what, if you aren't, maybe you should be worried. a christian is not supposed to have it easy in this life. either God's gonna test us, or the world's gonna reject us for following Him. (if you really ARE following him)

but recently, i realised there's a way out. or rather, i re-realised. cos i always fall away, and then come back again.
i don't have a way of getting rid of the problems, but i've found a way to face them. and even if the problems don't go away, i'm still at peace.
my dad said something that night which i found to be really true:
most of us believe in God, we just don't believe that God matters.
ask yourself honestly if this is true for you. cos i admit it has been true for me sometimes.

i needed to rededicate my life back to Him again. and i've done that lots of times in the past year or so.
what i've also decided to do recently is to have a more disciplined lifestyle (due to all the commitments i have, i need really good time management). but it's really tiring and i knew the only way i was gonna accomplish it was to ask God for help.
i start my day at about 5plus or 6am and do my Quiet Time and Bible reading. then a good prayer to kickstart the day. fill myself with God's strength and asking Him to be with me throughout the day. it really makes a difference!!
if you feel that you can't wake up early or don't have the time for all this Quiet Time stuff, then here's another saying which i believe in:
if something is important to you, you will definitely find the time for it.
this is really true. football is very important to me, so i'll find the time to play or watch it, even if i have to sacrifice my studying time, which is not that important to me, so i don't make time to do it sometimes. (this is not a good example, but's it's the only thing i can think of now)
HOW IMPORTANT IS GOD TO YOU?
aha! brain starting to think a little bit now? this applies to activities, or friends, etc.. what REALLY is important to you?

well, i've realised that i also depend on my own strength alot. and most of the time, this doesnt work.
then i also depend on friends alot. don't get me wrong, friends are great and everything, but hey, face it, they've got their own lives and problems too. they ain't gonna be there forever. sometimes they just leave you. friends may not want you around all the time, but God DOES.
oh and then there's your boyfriend/girlfriend. i hope you don't have one, but if you do, i'll leave you to find out for yourself. until you're mature enough i think it's just gonna cause pain in the end. when will you be mature enough? not while you're in PLH. i don't have the experience to touch on this, but hey, i know people who have. anyways, i hope the talk during easter retreat spoke to you.
some people who probably will never forsake you are your family, but dad and mum won't be around forever. (touchwood) no offence. but really, life is unpredictable.
there's only one who's gonna be around forever and that's God.
it's taken me a while to realise that He's the only one who's gonna be there for me forever. even if the whole world comes crashing down, as long as i've got Him, i'll be okay. lots of faith and trust needed though. and things really ARE easier said than done.

if you feel you ain't getting the credit you think you deserve, or feeling the love and care you should be feeling, it's becos you aren't looking for it from the right person. no matter how "good" or how "lousy" you are, God loves you just the same. and it is in Him where we should find our self-security or self-esteem. we should be looking to please God, and not man. so we should not be looking for credit from people. if something you do displeases people or your friends, but pleases God, then JUST DO IT! (Nike)
store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, not on earth.

okay, i really am not sure how to end this post, impromptu stuff ain't easy to pull off sometimes.
maybe i can seperate it into 2 things:

if you think you're ok, maybe you need to think again. cos some people REALLY do not think there is anything wrong with them or their lives. (Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.")

if you know you're NOT ok, you need to go back to God. (Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.")

maybe you need to pray more too. or start reading the Bible and doing Quiet Time regularly.
if you need/want to rededicate your life back to God, do not hesitate.

i hope this post has spoke to you somehow. cos in writing this very long post, i have disrupted my new disciplined lifestyle. which requires sleeping at about 11.30pm to wake up at around 5.30am. (6 hours of sleep usually is quite good, but football training takes ALOT out of you!!) it's now 11.55pm. haha. but hey, this is more important.
my alarm clock will still ring at 5.30am tmr. and as for that undone homework that is due tmr, i've done the more important homework on this blog. and i'll ask God to deliver me from my teachers haha!:p

i'm not gonna ask you to have a great week ahead.
i'm telling you to have a God-centred life.

if you hear God today, do not harden your heart.

I-Zack

Hey, this a chain mail which i received and think that it's pretty touching
Dart Test...

A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in a seminary class, given by her teacher, Dr. Smith . She says that Dr. Smith was known for his elaborate object lessons.

One particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and knew they were in for a fun day.

On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts. Dr. Smith told the students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone who had made them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's picture.

Sally's friend drew a picture of who had stolen her boyfriend. Another friend drew a picture of his little brother. Sally drew a picture of a former friend, putting a great deal of detail into her drawing, even drawing pimples on the face. Sally was pleased with the overall ef fect she had achieved.

The class lined up and began throwing darts. Some of the students threw their darts with such force that their targets were ripping apart. Sally looked forward to her turn, and was filled with disappointment when Dr. Smith , because of time limits, asked the students to return to their seats. As Sally sat thinking about how angry she was because she didn't have a chance to throw any darts at her target. Dr. Smith began removing the target from the wall.

Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus. A hush fell over the room as each student viewed the mangled picture of Jesus; holes and jagged marks covered His face and His eyes were pierced.

Dr. Smith said only these words....' In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me .'
Matthew 25:40.

-Yiren
No other words were necessary; the tears filled eyes of the students focused only on the picture of Christ.

Prinsep Lighthouse (PLH) is the youth ministry of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. It’s meant for all youths aged 13-18 years old to come together every Sunday for a fellowship as well as to worship God and learn more about Him.PLH is on every Sunday from 11am to 12.45pm. On usual Sundays, we have worship time from 11-11.30am. During worship, we sing songs of praise to God.

After which the youths will break up into their respective groups to do a Bible Study for the rest of the time there. These Bible Studies are led by Mentors, who are really nice and fun people and are very knowledgeable and helpful as well. While doing Bible Studies, we share about our life too! Our joy, our pride, our problems, our challenges..and through this, we make loads of great friends!!
