A Student's Prayer
Hey all!
Let's continue to pray for those who have exams, esp. O and A level people. Julia asked me to post this on the blog--it's a prayer for students. Let this be our prayer as well as an encouragement to those taking exams (thanks Julia!)
A Student's Prayer
Lord, grant me a quiet heart
Before my examination starts
Teach me to use my leisure hours
To re-invigorate my powers
My mind from day-dreams liberate
Give me the will to concentrate
From all distractions set me free
That in my studies I may be
A Student with this whole intent
To make my work a sacrament
From pains in heart, in love expel
All failure fears that therein dwell
And from my pillow drive away
All dark foreboding of that day
Help me in faith to rest so deep
That I may have untroubled sleep
While notes and lessons I prepare
May I not lose my zeal in prayer
And I may not forget to look
For daily guidance in Thy book
In quietness, confidence and peace
May I have swift and sure release
From needless fears and aprrehension
From outward strain and inward tension
And may I ever grateful be
While for myself I intercede
For other students too I plead
So many examinations find
Each one alert in heart and mind
Thus inward joy and peace possessing
Exams will prove a source of blessing
Amen

Muggers
Four A.M., two hours to go I'm wearing out a lonely glow I miss You more than I could know Here I am, here I am Won't You get me....
I've got my hands at Redemption's side Whose scars are bigger than these doubts of mine I'll fit all of these monstrosities inside and I'll come alive, come alive
With my fist down at Your feet I was running out of mysteries Insecure and incomplete, here I am, here I am, won't you get me?
I've got my hands at Redemption's side Whose scars are bigger than these doubts of mine I'll fit all of these monstrosities inside and I'll come alive, come alive, alive, come alive
My fears have worn me out My fears have worn me out My fears have worn me out My fears have worn me, worn me out
I've got my hands at Redemption's side Whose scars are bigger than these doubts of mine I'll fit all of these monstrosities inside and I'll come alive
I've got my hands at Redemption's side Whose scars are bigger than these doubts of mine I'll fit all of these monstrosities inside and I'll come alive, come alive
All the "O" and "A" level people hang in there okay? Everyone has you in prayer... though if you're reading this right now you should probably go study :P Trust in God and if you've done your best He will pull you through. Don't worry about not doing well, just remember no matter what results you get He will always love you :) Press on, peeps!

Faith Alive
Verse for the Week
1Thessalonians 5:21,22
"Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil."
This verse warn us not to accept "mindlessly" the values and practises of the world. As God's children, we want to live our lives according to God's Word, guided by His Spirit. How do we know what is right, what is wrong, what is pleasing to God and what is sin? Rom 12:2 tells us "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will." My prayer for all of us is that we will seek the Lord wholeheartedly in all we do, say, think and dream. To God be the glory!

PAID IN FULL
hEllo! I came across this really meaningful email which was sent to me 5 times and i thot i must really share it with you all! ((=
so here it goes:
After living what Jessie felt was a 'decent' life, her time on earth came to the end.
The first thing she remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what she thought to be a courthouse.
The doors opened and she was instructed to go in and have a seat by the defense table.
As she looked around, she saw the 'prosecutor.' He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at her. He definitely was the most evil person she has ever seen.
Jessie sat down and looked to her left and there sat her Attorney, a kind and gentle-looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to her, she felt she knew Him.
The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. Jessie couldn't take her eyes off Him.
As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, 'Let us begin.' The prosecutor rose and said, 'My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this woman belongs in hell.' He proceeded to tell of lies Jessie told, things she stole, and in the past when she cheated others. Satan told of other horrible perversions once in her life and the more he spoke, the further down in her seat she sank.
She was so embarrassed and couldn't look at anyone, not even her own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins even she, herself, completely forgotten about. As upset as she was at Satan for telling all these things about her, she was equally upset at her Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all.
She knows she was guilty of those things, but she did do some good in her life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm she'd done?
Satan finished with a fury and said, 'This woman belongs in hell, she is guilty of all I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise.'
When it was His turn, her Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, Jessie was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty.
She suddenly realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing her, her Lord and her Savior.
He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, 'Hi, Dad,' then He turned to address the court. 'Satan was correct in saying this woman sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this woman deserves to be punished.'
Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, 'However, I died on the cross so this person might have eternal life and she accepted Me as her Savior, so she is Mine.'
My Lord continued with, 'Her name is written in the Book of Life and no one can snatch her from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This woman is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.'
As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,'There is nothing else that needs to be done. I've done it all.'
The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips... ' This woman is free. The penalty for her was already paid in full. Case dismissed'
As her Lord led her away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, 'I won't give up, I will win the next one.' She asked Jesus as He gave her instructions where to go next, 'Have you ever lost a case?' Christ lovingly smiled and said, 'Everyone that comes to Me and asked Me to represent them, received the same verdict as you, 'PAID IN FULL.'
-end of story-
Let's pass this along and build Christ's kingdom up. You never know how a story can change someone's life. Let's be passionate about serving Him and running with zeal for Him. Even though you might feel far away from God, it's never too late to turn back. Remember, God took the 99 steps, He is waiting for you to take that one step. Give your broken hearts to Him. He will heal you. No matter how messed up you are, God is there waiting to shower you with his love. He loves you more than you can imagine. Let's live our lives that will glorify God. Don't be ashamed of God. God suffered all the shame for you and yet still loves you even though we hurt Him and shame Him. Don't be too quick to say religion is not for you. Go figure. Give God a chance. How do you know if you don't give Him a chance? So go figure! God loves and bless you!

Castles in the sand
All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy But all work no God left Jack a lost soul But he's moving on full steam He's chasing the american dream And he's gonna give his family the finer things
Not this time son i've got no time to waste Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play And then he slips into his new BMW And drives farther and farther and farther away
So he works all day and tries to sleep at night He says things will get better Better in time
So he works and he builds with his own two hands And he pours all he has into a castle made of sand But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands His kingdom stands
This american dream Is beginning to seem More and more like a nightmare With every passing day
"Daddy can you come to my game?" "Oh baby please don't work late" Another wasted weekend And they are slipping away
Cause he works all day and lies awake at night He tells them things'll get better It'll just take a little more time So he works and he builds with his own two hands And he pours all he has into a castle made of sand But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands His kingdom stands
He used to say "Whoever dies with the most toys wins" But if he loses his soul what has he gained in the end? I'll take a shack on the rocks Over a castle in the sand Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It's not getting any better Looks like he's running out of time Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands And he poured all he had into a castle made of sand But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
All they really wanted was you All they really wanted was you All they really wanted was you
Thanks Zek for the video.
I think this applies to all of us, not just those with jobs. We're all so caught up in trying to beat the person next to us in EOYs, or getting a better handphone / mp3 / rifle / bicycle / set of clothes etc. than the other person, that we end up "killing" others and ourselves, just for something that won't last. Trust in God and things that WILL last. True, some of our wants might seem important for us at times, but stop once in a while to think of others. Is there someone you stepped on in your effort to do better? How about someone you've been ignoring for a while cause you were too busy with 'important' things?
Think about it.

The Three Trees!
Once there were 3 trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the 1st tree said, "Someday, I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems and be decorated with intricate carvings. Everyone would see my beauty."
The 2nd tree said, "Someday, I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of other world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."
Finally, the 3rd tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time, and people will always remember me."
After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. One came to the 1st tree and said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter," and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.
At the 2nd tree, one of the other woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The 2nd tree was happy, because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.
When the woodsmen came upon the 3rd tree, the tree was frightened, because it knew that, if it got cut down, its dream would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree, so I'll take this one," and he cut it down.
When the 1st tree arrived at the carpenter's, he was made into a feed box for animals, placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.
The 2nd tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end.
The 3rd tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark.
The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.
Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth, and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.
Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose, and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace," and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.
Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets, and the crowd mocked the man who was carrying it. Finally, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.
--
The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts.
Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.
We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.
--
Amen to that! For those of us whose exams are over, let's all give thanks to God, and place our results in His hands. He knows what's best for us! ;)
And for those of us whose exams aren't over yet, keep praying, and keep studying for His glory! Remember that no matter what grades you get, God has the ultimate plan for you. :)
Take care and God bless! :)

Title: A $20-bill
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill.
In the room of 200, he asked, who would like this $20 bill? Hands started going up.
He said, I am going to give this to one of you, but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple the bill up. He then asked, who still wants it?
Still the hands were up in the air.
Well, he replied, what if I do this? He dropped it on the ground, and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. Now, who still wants it? Still, hands went up into the air.
My friends, you all have learnt a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it, because, it did not decrease in value. It is still worth $20.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel that we are worthless, but, no matter what happens, you will never lose your value, dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives come not in what we do, or what we know, but, by who we are. You are special, don't forget that!!
Always count your blessings, not your problems.
As it is now the exam period, I just thought that this story would encourage you all. No matter what results you get in the end, it does not change how special you are in the eyes of the Lord or those who love you. So just do every paper to the best of your abilities, committing everything to the Lord in prayer.
